Last updated: August 24, 2025
This privacy policy explains how TheGroceries ("we", "us", "our", or "TheGroceries") collects, uses, and shares information related to your use of the TheGroceries mobile application and related services (collectively, our "Services").
We are committed to protecting your privacy and handle your information with care and respect. This privacy policy describes our practices in simple, clear language.
By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Information You Provide To Us
We collect information that you provide to us in a variety of ways, including:
No Accounts
We do not create or maintain user accounts. You can use the app without signing up or providing a name or email.
Lists and Items
Your shopping lists and the items you add are stored on our servers so you can sync across devices and share with others. We also keep a local copy on your device to ensure the app continues to work when you have no internet connection; changes are synced when connectivity returns.
Health & Fitness Data
If you grant permission, we collect step count data during your shopping trips to show you how active you were while shopping. This data is only collected with your explicit consent and you can disable it anytime in settings.
Sharing
If you choose to share a list (for example, via a share code), we transmit only the data necessary to deliver that feature to the people you share with.
Correspondence
If you contact us by email or through our support channels, we may collect the information contained within, and associated with, your correspondence.
3. Information We Gather Automatically
We collect basic app usage data to keep things running smoothly:
- Device type and app version
- Crash reports and performance data
- General location (country level only)
You can opt out of analytics in settings.
4. How We Use Your Information

5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your Personal Information or share it for cross‑context behavioral advertising. We may share information only in these limited situations:
List Sharing
When you choose to share your lists with family members, the information in those lists becomes visible to the people you've explicitly shared with. You control who has access to your shared lists.
Service Providers
We work with trusted service providers who help us operate our Services (such as cloud storage providers). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of our users.
Business Transfers
If TheGroceries is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change in ownership or control.

You have control over your personal information:
Access and Portability
You can access your shopping list data at any time through the app. You can also export your lists for your own records.
Correction
You can update or correct your information directly within the app.
Deletion
You can delete individual lists or items at any time from within the app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

You can opt out of analytics collection in the app settings. This will not affect the core functionality of the app.
8. Children's Privacy
Our app is not for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data may be stored on servers in different countries. By using the app, you agree to this.
